ONGOING EVENTS

The following is a list of events happening for more than a one week period.

Uxbridge Huck Finn Youth Fishing Days

All season long starting April 27th

Uxbridge Huck Finn Youth Fishing Days returns this spring on a reduced scale. This year there will be no official contest taking place, instead, families will now be able to fish at Elgin Pond at their leisure all season long, starting April 27th, with the chance to win pop-up prizes! Elgin Pond will be stocked with 500 Brook trout for all the fishing fun, courtesy of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Keep an eye out for Boomer the Bass on May 4th, 11th and 25th, as he will be out and about surprising lucky anglers with prizes sponsored by Canadian Tire Uxbridge! Prizes will be distributed at random to those fishing at Elgin Pond. There is no age limitation or registration required to qualify for a prize.

Fishing season officially opens April 27th, and we ask the public to refrain from fishing in the pond before this date. Anyone 18 and older is required to obtain a fishing license to participate. Learn more about fishing licenses here: Fishing licence (Canadian residents) | ontario.ca

Visit our website at www.uxbridge.ca/huckfinn for more information.

Uxbridge Mini Forest

The Rotary Club of Uxbridge and Little Forests Durham are excited to announce the development of a mini-forest at the Fields of Uxbridge!
.
A mini-forest is a densely planted community of native trees and plants in a small area the size of a tennis court. These forests hold many benefits as they grow 10 times faster, sequester carbon dioxide up to 30 times better, and are 20-100 times more biodiverse than conventionally planted forests. To develop the mini-forest, we’ll be preparing the site by laying down cardboard, spreading compost and mulch, and allowing these materials to settle over the next few months before planting in the fall.
.
Two mini-forests will be planted at the Fields of Uxbridge in two separate phases over two years. Site preparation for the first phase will begin on July 6th, 2024, and the tree planting will take place this fall. The second phase will begin with site preparation in the Spring of 2025 and planting in the Fall of 2025.
We invite people of all ages to come learn about the mini-forests and help volunteer at the site preparation on July 6th. Volunteers are asked to arrive at the Fields of Uxbridge at 9:00a.m – free parking will be available at 721 Ball Road. Please wear protective work gloves and boots, and bring your own drinking water, shovels and wheelbarrows if possible.
.
This project was financially supported by Green Communities Canada (in partnership with the Greenbelt Foundation) and the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority.
For more information about this project, please email trails@uxbridge.ca.

Live Music

Django Djunkies live on the patio at Banjo Cider
at 2:00pm
.
Gypsy Jazz is back with the Django Djunkies playing Live on the Patio - Sunday July 21, 2024. Music starts at 2pm, and they'll play two 45 minutes sets. Sunshine, jazz, and cider - what more could you ask for on a Sunday afternoon?
The Django Djunkies play music known as Gypsy Swing or Gypsy Jazz. This is a style of music from the 1920s which is based on a European interpretation of early jazz and jazz standards in combination with European influenced styles. Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli were early proponents of this style and modern performers such as Bireli Lagrene and Stocholo Rosenberg (Rosenberg Trio) carry on the tradition. Their group consists of two guitars, bass guitar and mandolin/violin virtuoso Conrad Kipping.

We are excited to have Tania Joy back on the patio! She'll be joining us Live on the Patio - Sunday August 25, 2024. Music starts at 2pm and Tania will be playing two 45 minutes sets. As always, kids and dogs are welcome!
Folk-roots musician Tania Joy has been using the last few years to hone her songwriting, finally following up her 2013 EP, I’ll Be Around, with the release of her EP I Will Stand, produced by 2022 Juno Award winner Hill Kourkoutis.
In 2020, Tania found herself taking on a more complex narrative as the world around her shifted, bringing increased and global attention to Black Lives Matter. With mentorship from Hillside’s Girl with Guitars program, Tania wrote her first protest song, “Planks and Marietta,” which was released on Bandcamp during Black History month with all proceeds from downloads being directed to Black Lives Matter. I Will Stand was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2022 Oshawa Music Awards and Tania won Songwriter of the Year at the 2021 OMA's.
Tania is also the co-founder and Executive Director of Uxbridge’s Springtide Festival.
