Salt-Water Moon

Uxbridge Music Hall
Thu, 14 Nov 2024 - Sat, 23 Nov 2024

OnStage Uxbridge presents: Salt-Water Moon.

It’s a moonlit evening in a Newfoundland fishing village in 1926. Jacob Mercer has just returned home, desperate to win back the heart of his former flame, Mary Snow. Mary, still reeling from the heartbreak Jacob caused when he left, has become engaged to wealthy Jerome McKenzie. But this unexpected visit from Jacob could place her entire future in peril.

This heartfelt exploration of young love is a Canadian classic. First staged by Tarragon Theatre, Toronto, in 1984, it has been produced numerous times in North America and the world since its premiere. It won the Canadian Authors Association Literary Award for Drama, the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play, the Hollywood Drama-Logue Critics’ Award, and was a finalist for the Governor-General’s Award for Drama.

David French is one of Canada’s most critically-acclaimed and widely-produced playwrights. He was born in Coley's Point, the setting of the play, in 1939. Although French moved from Newfoundland to Toronto with his family as a child, his fascination with his birthplace was present in many of his plays. In Salt-Water Moon, two young people question the restrictions society places on them, as they ponder their future. Yes, it is a love story, but Salt-Water Moon is also about breaking the binds of traditional expectations in the pursuit of happiness.

Rory Taillon

8:00pm - 10:30pm

"Alternative indie folk singer Rory Taillon has a voice that needs to be heard." — Canadian Beats
19+. $10 advance (+HST/fee). $15 (+HST) at door. Doors 8 pm.
Ottawa singer/songwriter Rory Taillon is a road warrior, touring across the country and back again. Rory is not just an entertainer; he’s a performer. It’s just that simple, when Taillon sings everything stops and when it starts again it’s all changed. It’s just that simple, like folk.
"...I think I can just say for all of us right now: Wow. Again, I'd known about Rory for a while after following him on Instagram, however this track (Welcome) especially impressed me with its passionate delivery, and its increasing intensity. As it builds and builds and builds arriving at this climax where Rory is just alight with this fire unmatched by most artists in the field today. Regardless of their stature. I think I can speak at least for myself that I haven't heard anything that's been that intense in a long while...I implore you to definitely give a listen to this artist because I really think he's going to blow up soon." - Bryson Worden, The Block with Bryson on CIVL 101.7FM

Zachary Lucky Live

at The Second Wedge

3:00pm - 5:00pm

Music Sunday! We're welcoming back Zachary Lucky for an amazing afternoon at the brewery.
.
Zachary Lucky is is unapologetically old-school country, armed with a husky, baritone voice - He often receives comparisons to songwriters such as Gordon Lightfoot and Kris Kristofferson. He sings of Canadian places and people as knowingly as he might Townes Van Zandt or the Rio Grande. His songs are relatable on many levels and conjure universal feelings that have passed through our collective timelines. Already hailed as a master storyteller by outlets ranging from No Depression to The Globe and Mail, Zachary is becoming a legend in his own right and has safely reserved his spot at the table of Canadian roots royalty.
.
