Ewen Macdonald on July 11, 1911. Living in the Leaskdale Manse, she penned nearly a dozen books before moving to Norval, Ontario, in 1926. Today, the Roxy stands as a cherished symbol of community pride and unity.
The oldest building in Uxbridge Township, dating back to 1820, is the present board and batten meeting house. Originally divided into separate areas for men and women, it underwent renovations in 1881, creating a small Sunday School area. The west door and window on the South wall were also switched during this time, altering the building's symmetry. The hand-hewn pine pews were crafted with open backs for women's bustles and closed backs for men. Lighting was primarily provided by a central brass lamp and perimeter coal lamps, while heat was once supplied by a wood stove. In 1995, the building was raised and fitted with a concrete block foundation.
The original Uxbridge station, constructed in 1870 by the Toronto & Nipissing Railway, served as a hub until 1904 when the iconic "witch's hat" roofed station was built by the Grand Trunk Railway. In 1996, the Township of Uxbridge acquired the station, which later became the location of the the York-Durham Heritage Railway, which offered historical train rides between Stouffville and Uxbridge.
